Fellow triathletes, the official date for the first meeting has been set!
** Tues, 8-31-10, 6:30-7:30pm in Union 311C**
Mark your Calendars!
Greetings fellow FSU students! I’m happy to hear that a lot of people are interested in joining Triathlon Club @ FSU this upcoming fall (a little over a month away!). Therefore, I would like to answer some of your questions and clear up any confusion. Here we go:
1. How do I join?
We will meet no later than the second week of school in early September for our first official meeting. There you will be able to meet all of your new teammates and join the club.
2. When is the first meeting?
As stated above, it should be no later than the second week of the fall semester (beginning) September. Stay updated by checking on the website as the new semester approaches.
EDIT:
Tuesday August 31st, 6:30-7:30pm Union 311C
3. How much is it to join?
Although the club dues are not 100% set in stone yet, they will probably be around $50 dollars for the whole year. Very fortunately, these $50 will go a long way. We currently are sponsored by several very good triathlon affiliated brands, which give us awesome discounts. Also, we are planning to attend several triathlon races as a unified club. At least one of these races will be paid for. Not bad!
4. How good do I have to be to make it into the club?
I can’t emphasize this enough. You do not have to have ANY experience with triathlons. On the club there are from nationally ranked athletes, to people who are looking at participating in their first triathlon. All you need is your curiosity to participate in this growing and very exciting sport…and perhaps running shoes and a pair of goggles. There will be workout sets for experienced and inexperienced alike.
5. But I don’t have a bike?
Although having a bike is a big plus, you can still swim and run. ALSO, the club currently owns one bike, which it lends out to members in need. FURTHERMORE, there are other options to get you hooked up with a bike such as the Green Bicycle Project and Krank It Up. No bike, no problem.
6. What is being in the triathlon club like?
To give you an idea, the club will host at least one workout a day, whether it is a swim workout, bike ride, or a run. You will learn how to put it all together for a race. You will meet new teammates at club socials/parties. You will attend several races where we will travel together and stay overnight.
7. What’s the Tri the Rez?
So we actually have our own official race. No way! Tri the Rez is a triathlon held at the FSU Reservation (The Rez) that will take place on October 23rd 2010 which I’d highly recommend for your first triathlon. Hesitant about signing up? Don’t be. We’ll all be there. You can sign up at: http://sites.google.com/site/tritherez/
Hopefully, I answered a lot of your questions. If you have any other ones, feel free to email me at jaz08@fsu.edu. The club officers and I are very excited and have a lot of ideas for the upcoming year, so this is one you won’t want to miss. My fellow (tentative) triathletes, have a great rest of the summer and I’ll meet you in the fall.
